Goals either side of the break set the tone this morning as Preston edged their way on top and held onto their advantage as United got back into action in a competitive league game for the first time this calendar year.
The Lilywhites made it comfortable with a third goal midway through the second half but United pushed for a consolation as the clock ticked down with Danny Hodgson twice hitting the woodwork.
