United create a host of chances in an exciting pre-season friendly
A young United U18 side faced Preston in their latest pre-season friendly and the teams played out an entertaining fixture in the blistering summer heat. The home side edged it but Connor Hammell registered a wonderful free kick finish, and Jason Blackburn notched another, as the visitors went close having missed a string of good chances.
"This was a really good game and we'd like to thank Preston for having us along," academy manager Alan Moore said.
"We had eight U16 players involved and it was good for us to be able to get a look at them. They were able to see what's required against tough opposition and it's given them a huge carrot.
"They know if they play well in their own team they could find themselves involved with us. In terms of development and letting these lads get a taste for U18 football it has been an excellent day."
