Defender returns for second spell
Carlisle United have today signed Hull City left back Conor Townsend on a half season loan deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the last ball of the campaign has been kicked.
Townsend, 20, joined the Cumbrians for an initial one-month spell at the beginning of September and made the left back spot his own with a string of impressive displays which earned him a two-month extension and a total of 15 appearances for the Blues.
"We know all about Conor and we're delighted that we've been able to get him back," manager Graham Kavanagh said. "He really enjoyed his spell with us before Christmas and we think we all saw how much he improved and added to the squad as the weeks went by.
"Hull obviously think very highly of him and it's great that they feel this is a good place for him to be. He's a great lad with a fantastic attitude and we're looking forward to working with him again through a very busy second half of the season."
Townsend came through the youth ranks with Hull and has enjoyed extremely successful loan spells at Grimsby Town and Chesterfield since turning professional two seasons ago.
He made 27 appearances for The Mariners during the 11/12 season and picked up the Supporters’ Young Player of the Season award when his initial one-month October deal was extended until the end of the season.
His second loan outing came in November 2012 and, again, he was invited to remain at the Proact Stadium until the end of last season following an excellent run of form.
This transfer remains subject to the completion of all paperwork.
