Clarification on recent reports
Carlisle United can confirm that recent reports of a six figure payment, linked to striker Gary Madine’s appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, are wide of the mark and that no such payment is due under the terms of the transfer deal which took Madine to Hillsborough on a four-and-a-half year contract in January 2011.
As stated at the end of the 2012/13 season, Madine was just one appearance short of triggering a clause which would have resulted in a further payment at that time, in line with the transfer agreement.
Managing director John Nixon said: “We felt this was one where we needed to set the record straight, particularly in light of the fact that Sheffield Wednesday are currently supporting Gary through a rehabilitation process.
“Expectations of payments which aren’t due to happen are of no help to anyone in situations like this so we hope we have been able to clarify matters following the inaccurate reports which went to print this week.”
