Academy lads enjoy Middlesbrough test
The Carlisle United U10 academy side attended the annual Football League festival in Middlesbrough last week and, once again, did the club proud with the attitude shown throughout their visit.
Academy coach Ben Benson said: "The tournament was hosted by Middlesbrough FC at their Rockcliffe Park training ground. Teams from Boro, York and Hartlepool also took part and it turned into a very enjoyable event.
"We use this festival as a fitness gauge for the lads, more than anything else, because there are a lot of games in a short space of time. With them being small-sided games we also utilise it as a method of reinforcing our foundation phase training philosophy."
"Results aren't recorded as it's a curtain raiser for the Football League," he continued. "We took this opportunity to play some of our U9 players up a year which we feel is crucial for their long term development.
"We were delighted, as a group of coaching staff, with how the lads played. They very quickly picked up on everything they were being asked to do and they were a credit to our club.
"Once again I would like to thank the players, parents and coaches involved for helping us to make it such a successful and worthwhile visit."
