INTERVIEW: I believe we'll be safe

20 April 2014

Liam Noble on the Walsall game

Midfielder Liam Noble gave us his reaction to the 1-1 draw with Walsall on Good Friday.

“We’ve just looked at the league table and it’s still in our hands,” he said. “However, we know we could have done with the three points today.

“Everyone is devastated in the dressing room that we didn’t get the win. I thought we played well and deserved it and we’re gutted that we didn’t get it. It means a lot to everyone that we get the results we need and I thought we were the better team.”

“They’ve had that one chance, one header, and it sums the season up for us, to be honest,” he continued. “We need to stick together now, get some more points on the board and I still believe that we’ll be safe. Obviously it would have been a massive help with that if we’d got the result in this one.

“We’re at a point in the season where teams need results for their own reasons and I don’t think anyone will make it easy for us. You always go out there to win your games and we’ll definitely be fighting to do the job for ourselves.”

“Everyone is in this together, from the top of the club to the bottom,” he insisted. “We all want to end on a high and we’ll work hard to make it happen. There are players who are out of contract, and I’m one of them, and I think you’ll have seen today that we’re going to give it everything.

“It’ll be the same again on Monday because we’re going to go to Peterborough and try to get the three points. It’s massively important that we all come in for training in the right frame of mind ready to go again. It’ll be tough but we need to go down there and do it.”

And on the goal which gave United the lead, he said: “It doesn’t really matter if it’s given as my goal or not. It’s more important that we’re getting points. Like I say, I think I’ve shown I’m ready for the battle ahead and I know the rest of the lads are as well.

“We have to get over it because it does feel tough at the moment. I’ve hit the bar and the game has turned against us just a few minutes after that. If that had gone in then everyone would be buzzing, but we just aren’t getting the little bit of luck we need. I honestly thought it was in when I hit it but it just wasn’t to be.

“There are four games left and we have to go out there to get as many points as we can. If we do it then we’ll be fine because it is still very much in our hands at the moment.”
