FRIENDLY: Killie 2 - 2 United

26 July 2013

A very entertaining game

United bring a close to their pre-season programme this weekend with a double-header of games north of the border.

First up is a trip to Rugby Park to face SPL side Kilmarnock is what is almost certain to be a tough test.

"We've got a good weekend of football ahead of us," manager Greg Abbott said.

"I think this is the first home friendly of the summer for Kilmarnock so they will want to get it right. We want to carry on where we left off with the second half against Burnley and the way we played through the 90 minutes on Tuesday.

"It's all about fine tuning as we look ahead to next week now and it's important that everyone uses the next few days to make sure they are doing things properly."

33 seconds - An early Killie break down the left flank earned them a corner but resolute United defending prevented a shot.

3 mins - Chris Johnston broke from deep and took the ball into the box. He spotted a run from Paul Heffernan and the nippy striker made no mistake as he chipped it over Gillespie's outstretched hand and into the bottom corner.

4 mins - Killie tails were up and long, flighted ball into the box found Clingan with space. His first time volley had to be palmed behind by the keeper.

11 mins - The hosts enjoyed most of the early possession and Tesselaar went close with another fierce volley as a Clingan cross picked him out at the far post.

12 mins - Fisher robbed James tight by the touchline and a quick pass inside for Clingan opened the Cumbrians up. Ibrahim called for it but he hesitated just a second too long and Edwards made the vital block.

14 mins - A determined surge from Amoo won a corner but Edwards was penalised as he climbed all over his man.

15 mins - James Berrett completed a crunching tackle in midfield and moved sharply to receive the return pass from Brough. A direct run to the byline and a push of the ball across the face of goal left Mark Beck with the easy task of tapping the ball over the line.

18 mins - It was United's turn to control the game and Gillies showed skill to slide a pass through for Amoo to chase. Tessealaar raced back to cover the dangerous moment.

22 mins - Brad Potts pushed forward and kept his eye on the ball as he went for the bottom corner from the edge of the box. The keeper was beaten but the effort shaved the outside of the post.

32 mins - Johnston dipped in and out of the back line with some flicked passes and it needed a well-timed charge from Gillespie to stop him in his tracks.

34 mins - Tessalaar was left with no option but to clip Berrett as he jinked his way to the edge of the area. Noble sent a screamer over the wall and Samson did well to beat it away. Edwards was up first for the corner but he couldn't keep his header down.

41 mins - Fisher chased a lost cause and caught everyone by surprise when he managed to hook the ball back into the area. McKenzie swept a first time shot through Livesey's legs but Gillespie dived low to save.

45 mins - Johnston delivered another low, dangerous cross but the defence was alert and able to clear.

45 mins - Tesselaar grappled with Amoo and somehow came away with the ball. His sharp outswinger was beaten away by Gillespie and the clearance was completed on the turn by Edwards.

Half time: Killie 1 - 1 United

46 mins - A quickly taken corner found Barr unmarked and his volley went close as he hooked his foot round the ball and screwed it just over the bar.

48 mins - Amoo took his man and cross from the byline but it was cleared just as Beck arrived.

52 mins - Berrett was at the heart of another incisive Carlisle move as he tried to find a way into a shooting position. The ball broke for Brough and his early cross invited Mark Beck to double his tally as he nodded a deft header past the keeper.

61 mins - More trickery from Amoo earned another corner as United turned the screw. Livesey and Berrett both went close as Carlisle camped in the box.

70 mins - Excellent backtracking from Amoo prevented a clear shot on goal for Fisher.

72 mins - Pressure from Killie brought a parried save from Gillespie and a whipped follow up which sped across the face of goal from Fisher.

76 mins - Salmon picked up a wayward pass and played Amoo onto a run. He cut inside and was disappointed to see a left foot shot curl away to safety.

80 mins - James hesitated to shoot at one end and Killie used the opportunity to break. Heffernan was thwarted by an excellent and brave save from Gillespie.

82 mins - Barr went close with a fierce shot as Killie upped the pressure in the closing stages.

85 mins - Amoo remained a constant thorn in the side as he took the game into the Kilmarnock half.

89 mins - Heffernan equalised when he squeezed the ball through legs and into the bottom corner.
