INTERVIEW: I've enjoyed this season

Mark Beck on working hard to improve

Striker Mark Beck has hit the ground running with four goals during the first six months of his first season with a professional contract and with over 20 appearances under his belt already, he’s hoping for more of the same as he looks to continue to make his mark.

“I’ve really enjoyed this season so far,” he said.

“It’s been a good experience and I know my job is to do as well as I can whenever I get on. I haven’t played as well as I can recently, but I got a game against Rangers last week and I thought I did really well in that one.

“The gaffer was there to watch that and he has told me he wants to see more of the same. He was looking for a response, because he also knew that I hadn’t really played to my best in my last two appearances, and I think he was pleased I gave him that.”

“I think I just need to be more consistent and it’s good to know that I’ve got the time to do it,” he told us. “With having the three year contract I know I’m going to improve and I’m determined to do the work to go with that.”

And on the influence of newly-appointed team captain Lee Miller, he said: “He plays in my position and I look up to him for the way he does things. I watch what he does in training and during games and you can only learn from that. I think my own aim for the rest of this season is to get as much pitch time as I can. From there I’ll try to make sure that I come back next year as strong and as fit as I can be.”

Looking back at the weekend postponement of the Crawley game, he said: “We’d prepared and trained all week so it’s disappointing when you find out the match is off.

“It’s frustrating because it’s a game we were all looking forward to. We picked up a good win against Coventry and we wanted to carry that on. Confidence is high and it would have been a good time for us to play.

“You can tell with the mood around the changing room that the confidence is back. It’s a much better feeling when you’re winning games but, having said that, I don’t think heads ever dropped. We just needed a few results and hopefully we can carry that on now.”
