Defender to stay in Italy
Carlisle United Football Club have today reached a mutual agreement with Alessio Bugno which leaves the Lombardy-born defender free to pursue other avenues in his home country.
Bugno, 22, teamed up with the Cumbrians when they reported back for training at the beginning of July last year and he won the fans over with some determined displays during the run of friendly fixtures.
The left back made four appearances for the Blues at the start of the season but he struggled to fully settle having made the switch over to Carlisle shortly after signing his contract.
He asked to be allowed to try to secure a move back home at the start of December and has been undergoing trials with clubs in Italy ever since.
The cancellation of his contract leaves him as a free agent ahead of the closure of the transfer window at 11pm tonight.
"We have reached a mutual agreement and Alessio has subsequently had his contract with us cancelled," managing director John Nixon said.
"As far as we understand things he is still having trials, but we needed him to make a decision before the transfer window closed. He hasn't settled over here so the best thing for all concerned was to allow him to leave and try to secure himself a deal over in Italy."
Bugno's career has seen him register for Renate, Albino Leffe, Pro Seste and Monza before he teamed up with the Cumbrians for our pre-season campaign.
Everyone at Carlisle United wishes Alessio Bugno all the very best for whatever he goes on to do next.
