United midfielder on the Walsall game
Popular midfielder Liam Noble came off the bench on Saturday to bag a dramatic winner with an injury strike finish which earned his side a well deserved three points from a very keenly fought encounter.
We caught up with him at full time to get his reaction to the goal.
“I saw James Berrett chasing down their full back in the corner and Dave Symington then did very well to win the header,” he explained. “I’ve spoken to Joe Garner and he told me he spotted me out of the corner of his eye, because he was going to take a shot.
“When I got the ball my first thought was to slot it past the keeper, but that changed when I saw him go to ground. I went round him and hit it into the net ... and before you ask I have no idea what that celebration was about!”
“My mates keep banging on at me to do a roly-poly when I get a goal but for some reason the shirt came off,” he added. “I don’t even know why it happens, it’s just the heat of the moment or something.
“It’s just a great feeling to have been able to come on for 15 minutes and help the team and it’s got us three points as well. It’s not really about the goal because the important thing for us is the win.”
“I think we were the better team in this one,” he told us. “I thought I’d scored earlier when I hit the post, and when it bounced back out I just thought we were going to have to be happy with a point.
“I’m not the best of bench players so it was good to get on. To be honest, I hate it because I just want to be playing. All I can do is work hard in training and try to make an impact when I come on. If I do that it will give the gaffer something to think about.”
