Adam Collin on his return to the side
Keeper Adam Collin gave us his reaction to the Saturday FA Cup victory over Ebbsfleet.
He said: “It was the result we wanted more than anything else.
“Our aim was to be in the next round of the competition and we’re pleased that we’ve done that. We also wanted the win for ourselves because things haven’t been the best for us these last few weeks, so it’s a boost for the dressing room as well.
“It was always going to be hard work because it was a typical FA Cup tie,” he added. “They’re very well organised and they got plenty of men behind the ball to make it tough for us. When they did have it they tried to get it into the box to cause us problems, so we had to deal with that.”
“The goal before half time was a great time to score,” he explained. “You have to be patient in every game and all you can do is make sure that you take your chances when they come. Fortunately we did that.”
And on his return to the starting line-up, he said: “It was a good way to come back into the side. I was pleased with the way I played and it’s always nice to win. It’s been frustrating for me to have to sit it out but Mark [Gillespie] has been playing well.
“We work well together and we both want to be involved so there’s that level of healthy competition which is good for both of us. I’ll keep working hard and hopefully I’ll get more chances to be involved.”
“We never want to concede goals but the first one was a sharp finish,” he said. “It clipped the inside of Mike Edwards’ leg and went into the bottom corner. The second was smashed into the top corner from the penalty spot so there wasn’t too much I could do about them.
“Like I say, people keep talking about the home form at the moment so the result was an important one for us. It’s a competition you want to stay in and hopefully we’ll pick up a good tie along the way if we do that.”
