Adam Collin on the Yeovil game
Keeper Adam Collin spoke to us about the conditions at Yeovil after helping his side through to a 3-1 victory on a wintry day at the weekend.
“We all needed that victory,” he admitted. “We had to work hard with the weather the way it was and we’re absolutely delighted.
“I think the way it is at the moment is that when we get in front in a game we seem to just kick on. We defend really well when we go ahead and the disappointing thing is that we haven’t done that enough recently. We managed it in this one and we came out as deserved winners in the end.”
“It’s probably the worst conditions we’ve played in all season but we handled it really well,” he added. “We defended from front to back and that’s important when the weather is like this. You have to think about everything from your standing foot, because the surface is spongy, to catching the ball when the wind is gusting.
“It had just about everything and it’s horrible when it’s like that. All you can do is dig in and concentrate, and I thought we all did that really well.”
“Keeper’s obviously get confidence from making saves and it was nice to get a couple under my belt early on,” he told us. “We were unlucky with the goal we conceded. It hit Danny Livesey on the head then ricocheted off my chest and their lad was there to smash it in, so that’s disappointing. But you can’t do much when all of the luck goes against you like that. The important thing is how you react and, like I say, we defended really well.”
“It’s been a tough period for us but we know we’re still a good team,” he said. “If you look at the side we had out in this one it included a group of young lads who barely have ten games to their name. They have been a massive bonus for us because they are really stepping up to the challenge.
“A win like this gives us something to build on. We’ve got an FA Cup game we can enjoy next week and I we’ll carry on with our preparation for that in the same way we always have. We’re a strong group and it’s performances like this which will help us to get back to picking up the results in the way we have over the last couple of seasons.”
