INTERVIEW: Robson on aiming high

Wide man on pushing on

Wide man Matt Robson spoke to us on Thursday about the ongoing work within the squad to turn the results round and to get the team pushing on and up the table.

“I wouldn’t say I’m worried about the situation at the moment because we know we’re a good team, but it’s certainly something we need to address,” he said.

“I think for any professional team your home form is something you want to get right. Unfortunately for us this season it just hasn’t worked out and we need to put it right quite quickly.”

“I think we all feel responsible for the goals we’re conceding,” he added. “It doesn’t just come down to the back five because we all have to work hard together. When you concede goals it hurts everyone. We know if we keep clean sheets then we’ll score at the other end, so it’s a target for all of us.”

“People obviously ask if we can explain why this has happened but I really don’t know,” he continued. “There are times where we’ve played collectively quite poor as a team. On other occasions we’ve played well and come out of games on the wrong side of a result. The belief is still there and confidence is still there, so we just need to keep working hard and the results will come.”

“With what we’ve been through before we want to be at the top of the table,” he explained. “We’ve been improving for close to four years now and we want that to continue. I’ve been in teams near the bottom of the table before and it’s not a nice place to be. Ideally we want to be looking up the way.”

“We all have to look at ourselves and I do that after every game,” he admitted. “I think there’s always something I can do better. There’s always something to practice on the training field and I don’t think there’s many people who will have a perfect game. I’m quite critical about myself, sometimes probably too critical, but I just want to be the best player I can be.”

“We have to keep it in perspective because there is still a lot of football to be played,” he concluded. “We need a bit of luck and consistency, but our aim is to get into the top half. With a fully fit squad and a bit of momentum we should be able to achieve that with no problem.”
