Good start for the youth team

The United Youth team opened their season with a convincing 5-3 victory over Cleator Moor Celtic at McGrath Park this afternoon with every player getting at least 45 minutes ahead of what will be another week of tough pre-season training.

The win was all-but sealed by half time as United romped to a 5-2 lead but the tempo dropped after the break and the hosts were able to grab another goal to end the game on a high.

Eric Kinder said: "This was a really useful game for us and I'd like to thank Matt Henney for inviting us along.

"We started really well and I was very pleased with the way we moved the ball around in the first half. We got our goals and the lads looked sharp, but things tailed off a bit once we went into the second half.

"The main thing is that everybody got 45 minutes and there'll be a bit of confidence there as we head into next week. It was a good start to pre-season and we come away feeling pleased with what we've done.

"However, and as always, there is still more work for us to do."

Scorers: A Trialist, Peel, Lynch, Dixon, Clarey.
