Manager on the Ipswich game

United manager Greg Abbott spoke to us at full time on Tuesday night to give us his reaction to what was another amazing display of football at Brunton Park.

He said: "We're really pleased with what we've seen.

"It's been a night of mixed feelings for the staff because we were really disappointed with the first 20 minutes. Clubs like Ipswich will show you they're a good side if you sit off them and let them play, and that was exactly what we did.

"After that we got into the players to challenge for every ball and the game evened out for us. By the end of it I think it's fair to say there didn't look to be a big gulf between us at all.

"Everyone is going to talk about the young lads, and rightly so. I thought Brad Potts got better and better as the game went on, particularly after he had a nervy start. Mark Beck made a significant impact and Dave Symington looked a real handful on the right with his power and pace.

"David wears his heart on his sleeve and he actually burst into tears when I told him he was getting a contract. The thing with him is that he sometimes doesn't realise how good he can be, and that holds him back. He does things instinctively and when it comes off it's really good to watch.

"It looks like these young players are ready to play a huge part in what we're trying to do here. They've shown us that they are ready to push on even further and it's great for the club to be in this position with them.

"All we keep doing as a group is going out there to try and do our best. There are a lot of good decisions made along the way and we know the obstacles we face. With this, we've gone into the next round and we might just get ourselves a big night. I hope we do because it's something we all deserve.

"It's this level of performance we want to see more often than not. If we get it then we'll be heading in the right direction.

"We ask the players to do what they're good at. When we put people under pressure we look a really good side and it's getting it into the mindset that we have to do it all the time which is the key for us now.

"We saw in the first 20 minutes that we were scared of making mistakes. Once we got over that we started to dominate and there are some really good signs for us."
