DEFENDER EARNS DEAL

1 August 2012

Two-year contract signed

Left-sided defender Alessio Bugno has earned himself a two-year deal with Carlisle United following an impressive three-week trial spell at Brunton Park through the early part of pre-season.

Lombardy-born Bugno, 22, teamed up with the Cumbrians when they reported back for training at the beginning of July and settled in quickly as he won the fans over with some determined displays in the friendly fixtures.

His career thus far has seen him register for Renate, Albino Leffe, Pro Seste and Monza before flying over to Cumbria to spend some time with Carlisle United last month.

Manager Greg Abbott said: "We said before we came back in July that you hope to see something a little bit different with the trial players who come into the club and Alessio has shown us over the last three weeks that he fits into that bracket.

"He is a really nice lad who has worked hard from day one and he's settled in quickly to the way we do things on and off the pitch.

"The way he has come through has been a huge bonus and we really think we've got a player we can work with over the course of the next two years. He gives us something a little bit extra and it's up to him to carry on the good work and stake a claim.

"We always talk about adding the right type of characters to the mix and he gives us cover and options in a good area. Like I say, we think this is a good move for all concerned and we just want to see him push on from here."

Please note - this transfer remains subject to international clearance and to all of the necessary clearance of registration with the football authorities.
