INTERVIEW: They’ve been absolutely brilliant

11 March 2024

Luke Armstrong speaks ahead of our midweek fixture against Barnsley.

“We’re looking forward to every game, we’re wanting to get results again.

“The last time we played on a Tuesday night, we got a good result against Burton and we want to start building on it, we need to start getting results.

“There’s parts of performances which have been good and we want to come off the back of it at home with three points.”

Paul Simpson’s side continue to show positive signs, despite results going against them.

“We’re showing glimpses, everyone knows we’re a new team, we’ve got a lot of new players and there’s been little bits of it that we’re happy with, but at the same time, we’re not coming out all the time with good results and that’s what we want to do.

“We want to get the results and we’re trying to take all the positives, but also we’re working as hard as we can to improve upon the things that are letting us down at the minute.”

Luke opened the scoring at The Valley on Saturday afternoon in our defeat to Charlton, netting what was his second goal for Carlisle United.

“As a goalscorer, you want to be scoring goals, there’s nothing worse than a long time without goals.

“We were due that little bit of luck and it was great to get ahead and now we’ve just got to work on trying to build and create more chances, score more goals as a frontline, and also as a team, trying to prevent conceding as many as we are at the minute.”

The forward opened his account for the Blues in January, when we faced tomorrow night’s opponents in the reverse fixture.

“Goals bring a lot of confidence.

“Knowing you’ve scored against them previously, you want to do it again and have that belief that it’s going to happen again.

“Hopefully the same result in terms of goalscoring, but hopefully we can get the three points.”

When asked what kind of game he’s expecting, Armstrong said: “We know it’s going to be tough.

“Barnsley are coming off the back of a heavy defeat, so we know they’ll be trying to right their wrongs, but obviously we’re trying to do the same.

“It was a competitive match at their place and we know that Barnsley are always a good side, they have a good following and it’s going to be a good atmosphere, we’re looking forward to it.”

United were backed by an outstanding 872 fans in London.

Speaking on the recent support, Luke added: “They’ve been absolutely brilliant.

“They’re sticking with us and they believe in the cause.

"Everyone knows the future of the club is positive and we’ve just got to get the here and now right.

“To get that following away from home was absolutely brilliant and they backed us all the way and kept us going until the end, as they always do.

“We’re hoping to give them something to be happy about come the back of Tuesday night.”
