CLUB: United sign up as ‘Friends of Cumbria Pride’

Blues join new initiative

23 February 2023

Carlisle United are partnering with Cumbria Pride in a new initiative to support the local LGBT+ community – ‘Friends of Cumbria Pride’.

This is the perfect time for the club to support the scheme as part of the LGBT+ History Month and the wider Football v Homophobia campaign.

This project will allow people to easily identify the club as an LGBT+ friendly organisation, creating a safe space for all.

Fans will see the logo on our website, in the shop and ticket offices.

Nigel Davidson, CUFC Fan Director and EDI Officer said: “This is another fantastic opportunity for the football club to support the local LGBT+ community and demonstrate that Brunton Park is a safe space for all.

“We are proud to display the ‘Friends of Cumbria Pride’ stickers at the club and logos on our website.”

Nigel Clibbens, CUFC CEO said: “Carlisle United is committed to promoting inclusion and to confronting and eliminating discrimination.

“This is the latest initiative in our work towards being more welcoming to fans from all communities.”

About ‘Friend of Cumbria Pride’

The LGBT+ community in Cumbria has a new ally in the form of ‘Friends of Cumbria Pride’, a scheme designed to promote LGBT+ inclusivity in the region.

The scheme offers businesses and organisations an affordable way to support Cumbria Pride whilst demonstrating their commitment to promoting equality and diversity for the LGBT+ community.

By becoming a ‘Friend of Cumbria Pride’, businesses and organisations are not only helping to support the event and the work throughout the year of the charity, but they are also demonstrating their commitment to promoting an inclusive and diverse community in Cumbria.

This sends a powerful message to the LGBT+ community and to the wider public, that Cumbria is a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

‘Friends of Cumbria Pride’ will be listed on the Cumbria Pride website, and you can also look out for the window sticker or digital logo on display. These organisations are dedicated to creating an inclusive safe space to visit.
