Icelandic goalkeeper Jokull Andresson joined the Blues on a season-long loan in the middle August 2023.

He followed in the footsteps of his older brother Axel (a defender) when he joined the Royals as a 16-year-old, and has represented his country up to the senior level.

He signed his first professional contract at the Madejski Stadium in August 2018. His first loan spell came at the start of the 2018/19 season when he joined Hungerford Town, and he made his debut for the Crusaders in their National League South opener against St Albans.

He returned to his parent club for the second part of that campaign and helped his side to the Premier League 2 play-offs. An emergency loan to Exeter between October and December 2020 gave him league experience with the Grecians, who were then in League Two.

He enjoyed a similar spell with Morecambe, this time for a week, but Exeter moved smartly to secure his services on a longer-term loan deal until the end of that season.

Nicknamed the ‘Iceman’ he kept an impressive 12 clean sheets in 33 appearances for the Devon side. The first half of the 2021/22 season took him back to Morecambe and he featured 17 times as the Shrimps spent their first ever season in League One.

His performances and growing reputation earned him a senior debut on the international stage for Iceland against Uganda in January 2022.

A third spell in Exeter followed in January 2023 when he was summoned for another emergency loan period. A quick recall beckoned as Stevenage requested his services, but that stay was cut short when he went back to the Royals for treatment for an arm injury.
