Stopper Mark Gillespie agrees new deal with Carlisle United
Keeper Mark Gillespie has today signed a one-year deal, with an option to extend for a further season, which takes him into a sixth season with the club.
Gillespie, 23, came through the youth ranks at Brunton Park and was rewarded for his efforts at U18 and Reserve level with an initial one-year contract at the end of 2009/10 campaign.
He made his first team debut when he came off the bench to play the last 5 minutes of the game against Norwich City at Carrow Road in May 2010.
A successful loan spell with Blyth Spartans at the start of his first full season as a professional led to a three-year extension, and he has since made 78 appearances for the Blues having made a real claim for the number one spot through his five-year stay with the club.
Manager Keith Curle said: “We all know what Mark is capable of and we’re delighted that he’s staying with us.
“He’s been unlucky with injuries and, if we can keep him clear of that, we’re sure he’ll continue with the progression we’ve already seen. He has a very professional approach and I’m sure he’ll come back for pre-season ready to kick on and stake a claim.”
