CST team play in Sports Relief Cup

On Monday 7 April, the Carlisle United Community Sports Trust team took members from their Mental Health Football Programme to Liverpool to play in a Sports Relief Cup.

Hosted by Everton in the Community, the event was supported by Merseycare and Mental Health Football UK; seeing 12 teams compete for the cup. Check out the highlights of the day by clicking HERE.

The Carlisle United Mental Health Football Programme was first established in January 2013, introducing weekly ‘turn up and play’ sessions for men and women within the community to raise awareness of Mental Health and Wellbeing. These sessions soon became extremely popular and has seen over 20 members come through their door.

John Halpin, Carlisle United Community Sports Trust Manager said: ‘It was a great experience for all the players, they equipped themselves very well and hopefully this will now be a regular event."

The Mental Health Football Programme runs every Tuesday from 1pm until 2pm at Carlisle United’s Neil Sports Centre, and is supported by NHS Cumbria Partnership.
