BLUE YONDER: October update

22 October 2012

Letters sent to officials

Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that letters were sent last week to the Carlisle City Council Chief Executive and Carlisle City Council Leader to seek clarification on the current position held with regard to Project Blue Yonder – the proposal for an enabling development to facilitate the construction of a new-build stadium for Carlisle United.

The letters requested sight of the report which was alluded to by council officers at a meeting with the club in September this year which indicated that an enabling development for non-food retailing greater than 200,000 square feet would have little or no chance of success. We believe this report was compiled by a Manchester-based company, GVA.

The letters further stated that we hope councillors will continue to support the project as club directors are very conscious that they must provide fans with better facilities, and at the same time provide a venue to play football at the highest level which the citizens of the town and wider Cumbria can be proud of.

We would, of course, welcome a further meeting to explain our intended ‘path of travel’ and to discuss ways in which all parties can engage in a positive way as we progress our thinking and ambitions, not only for the club but for the city.

The club remains committed to full transparency with our fans and supporters and we now await a response before we take our next step.
