A game of few chances went the way of visitors Rochdale as they hit United on the counter late in the day to grab the points.Dale took the lead in the first half when a half-cleared set piece was eventually rifled through bodies and into the back of the net.
Carlisle stuck to their task and they pegged things back with 13 minutes left to play when a wonderful through ball left Max Cowburn with just the keeper to beat. He touched it over the diving stopper and then into the back of the net.
The visitors had a man sent off for dissent on 83 minutes but they bagged the winner on the break as the young Cumbrians pushed forward in search of a second goal of their own.
