Result from the FA Youth Cup game
Carlisle had to come from behind in a game full of incident but they kept their belief and did the job to go through to a third round meeting with Barnsley in this season's FA Youth Cup.Below is a minute-by-minute report from the game:
4' Chesterfield started well and a one-touch move which involved Taylor and German earned a corner for the hosts. Wakefield sent it short to Taylor and a back heel allowed Wakefield to follow up with a cross. It was a firm delivery but there was nobody there to finish it off.
10' The hosts almost grabbed the lead in bizarre fashion as Bacon smashed a clearance right at Tipping. The ball spun off the striker's boot and dropped over the bar.
11' Chesterfield pushed forward with plenty of options. Rowley fed it to German and his pull back invited Harry Taylor to shoot. That took a deflection and went behind for a corner. Smith sat deep at the back stick and his firm header had to be guided behind by Luke Taylor.
11' Carlisle broke quickly and a through ball put Salkeld into the area. He let fly with a low shot and Parkin dived low to make the save.
23' A very tight period was punctuated by a long ball forward for Egan to chase. He was clean through but his shot was accompanied by an offside flag.
26' German crossed deep and Rowley was there to nod it back across the face of goal. It came back to him off Luke Taylor but he miscued his shot and Bacon dropped quickly to save it.
26' United attacked from the goal kick and Dixon was a whisker away with a cushioned header from a Salkeld cross which sailed just wide of the upright.
36' Another good Carlisle break found Cowburn in a dangerous area. He went for an early snapshot but he couldn't keep it down and it whipped over the bar.
38' A deep United corner found Dean Watson completely unmarked. He tried his luck with a first time volley but it lacked power and the keeper smothered it comfortably.
41' The hosts went close as Rowley clipped a lovely cross at the penalty spot. Tipping was there to meet it but his header fell just the wrong side of the upright.
45' German and Breen raced for a loose ball and the big forward came away with it. He strode forward into the box but he couldn't find the target as he tried to squeeze it in from a tight angle.
47' The ball spun free to Rowley on the edge of the United area but he was disappointed as he leaned back and scooped a poor effort over the target.
48' Carlisle got forward with purpose as Salkeld was played in behind the back line. He looked to make it count but there was too much power in the drive and it went over the bar.
54' A lovely Carlisle move saw Cowburn, Brockbank, Salkeld and Egan get involved as they probed inside the area. A half clearance invited Olsen to come forward and his crunching effort somehow stayed out as it beat the keeper only to find the underside of the bar.
58' German pulled clear of his marker, took the ball at his feet and aimed for the bottom corner. Bacon did well to go long and parry it away.
61' Holt shot from distance but it screwed off the top of his boot and curled away from the target.
64' Intricate build up play from Carlisle suggested they were edging on top. Brockbank, Salkeld and Holt were involved but the shot was mishit when it came.
68' German went on a winding run then fed Ofoegbu for the cross. He picked out Rowley but Luke Taylor stepped across to stop the goal bound header on the line.
74' A low delivery pinged around inside the Carlisle box. It appeared to sit up nicely for Hand but he swung wildly, failed to connect and the ball ran harmlessly free.
75' Dylan Hand placed the ball for a 21-yard free kick and left Bacon with no chance as he bent it into the top corner.
85' A Cowburn free kick from 30-yards was plucked from beneath the bar by Parkin.
87' Another free kick is only half cleared and Jack Egan pounced to thump a lovely shot into the back of the net from the edge of the box.
88' Joe Breen curled a 24-yard free kick over the bar.
90' Bacon punched a late corner off his line and the whistle blew to signal 30 minutes of extra time.
96' A German shot was blocked for a corner but United dealt with it and broke at pace. Salkeld received it but his 25-yard shot on the sprint went just wide.
97' Substitute Clarey clipped the ball past Bacon as the stopper ran off his line but he hit the outside of the post as he went for the finish from a tight angle.
99' United grabbed the lead when Cowburn kept his eye on a cross from the right. His header left Parkin with no chance.
104' Hand sent a 24-yard free kick high over the bar.
107' Sennett-Neilson dropped a shoulder, beat his man, and aimed for the bottom corner. Two red shirts stopped the ball from going in.
109' Clarey latched onto a ball over the top, rounded Bacon, then slid his rolled shot past the open goal.
111' Carlisle should have wrapped the game up. Salkeld bent his run, shot low and brought a save from Parkin. The loose ball was recovered and cut back to Lloyd. He connected with a wicked shot but the stopper was up to make a vital save.
112' It was an all action finish to the game as German went through two tackles. He struck a firm effort but Bacon spread himself to save it.
118' Lloyd let fly from distance but it went over the bar.
