Keith Curle on players made available during the window
Manager Keith Curle confirmed at his weekly press conference that a trio of players have been made available should the right type of move come along during the January transfer window.“We’ve made Mark Ellis, Shaun Brisley and Joe McKee available and we’ve had conversations with certain agents about any interest there might be,” he said. “One thing we have said is that nobody will go out ahead of this weekend’s game but, as I say, part of my job is that I need to shuffle the pack and create some revenue.
“In terms of what we would look at, I would entertain loan or permanent offers if it was right for me, the player and the football club. The players are under contract but they’ve been told the reasons why they’ve been made available.
“Sometimes how quickly a football team develops can have a knock-on effect and in some cases individual performances haven’t helped. They’ve all been told what my opinion is, and what you’re hoping for is that the player identifies that the club has moved on and that they aren’t going to get the game time, so their best option is an exit.
“On other occasions they understand the honesty of what the expectations are, and what hasn’t been delivered, and they use it as a kick up the backside. If they do that you find that they start producing the form that led me to bring them to the football club in the first place.
“Because of the way we structure our salaries with incentives, players who are playing and performing can earn good money. However, when they aren’t in the team and they aren’t part of that success their wages are competitive for League Two.
“Gone are the days where we had to pay over the odds to get people here. Players can come here and earn money - but they do have to earn it.”
