Keep an eye out around the ground on Saturday as the club’s new Supporter Liaison Officer Geoff Weston takes post for the first time.
Geoff, appointed following the recent call to fans from CUSG and CUOSC, has a direct link to the staff at the club and will be on hand to answer all questions and queries, or to deal with any observations or complaints that may arise on the day.
SLO Saturday itinerary:
+ 1pm to 1.30pm – main reception on the west side of the stadium.
+ 1.30pm to 1.45pm – CUOSC surgery and foodbank.
+ 1.45pm – A Stand Community Ticket Scheme.
+ 2.15pm – Around the ground.
+ 2.30pm – Pioneer Stand Family Zone.
Geoff will be wearing a club jacket with SLO branded on the back and can also be contacted via the dedicated Twitter account - @CUFCSLO.
“I saw the advert on the internet and it’s a role I was really interested in,” he said. “I moved up to Carlisle from Tamworth about three years ago but I’ve been watching United play for the last ten years.
“My daughter married a lad from Carlisle and they actually live just opposite the stadium on Warwick Road. I’ve rarely missed a game in all that time.
“Football is a game I’ve always been involved with. I used to run a Sunday League team in Tamworth and I ended up being their chairman, secretary and treasurer through a spell of just over eight years.
“I have to hold my hands up and say I was a Tamworth supporter. I was a season ticket holder for about 20 years and we had the pleasure of going to Wembley a couple of times during that time.”
“Obviously I now come to every game as a United supporter,” he continued. “That’s why this role appealed to me. I know how things can become frustrating for fans if they think they aren’t being listened to so, hopefully, I’ll provide another avenue through which people can raise their concerns.
“I certainly won’t let anything go by. I’ll take any issues raised to the relevant people at the club and hopefully we’ll be able to resolve a few things along the way. That’s why I would urge people to talk to me if they see me, or get in touch, because is something the club and the fan groups, along with myself, really want to make work to the benefit of all parties.
"I'll also be proactive in contacting visiting clubs and in talking to clubs our fans will be going to throughout the season. If there's anything people feel I should be doing, just let me know and we can take it from there. I will certainly do my best to make things happen, or I will provide a reason for why things are as they are.”
“This is a role I’m really excited about,” he told us. “I retired two years ago, I live close to the ground and I’m passionate about trying to help to improve things.
“I know there is a lot of dissatisfaction about different things, and for a number of reasons, but hopefully people will see over time that I’m trying to do what I can do to bring positive conclusions to some of the genuine issues that are out there.”
