It's a second away trip of the week for the Blues as they head to the Lamex Stadium to face Stevenage on Saturday afternoon [kick off 1pm].

Things were still sticky for Boro as they headed into January so they took action, with midfielder Chris Lines (Northampton) and striker Luke Norris (Colchester) signing permanent deals within hours of the transfer window opening. Striker Matty Stevens signed a loan deal from Forest Green on the same day.

Two quieter weeks followed until teenage forward Jacob Bancroft was snapped up from non-league outfit Oxford City. 

Defender Joe Martin returned to the club from Northampton, then deadline day went crazy at the Lamex as five players beat the clock to join the club.

Forwards Elijah Adebayo (Fulham), Calum Dyson (Plymouth) and Jordan Gibson (Bradford) agreed loan spells with a view to making it permanent, and QPR midfielder Ilias Chair penned a half-season loan deal.

Meanwhile keeper Oliver Byrne confirmed that he was making the move from Blackburn permanently and that he was going to stay with the Boro.

But that still wasn't quite it, with Spurs midfielder Jack Roles and Derby striker Jahmal Hector-Ingram also committing to loan spells, with their registration documents filed just in the nick of time.

Stevenage have lost just two of their last 12 games but, on the flip side of that stat, the division's draw specialists have won just four within that same period.

Indeed, six of the last eight games (their current unbeaten run) have been draws, with a total of 16 stalemates from their 36 league fixtures so far.

Clearly hard to beat, Alex Revell has more than steadied the ship since taking over in February 2020, with him having cast aside last season's relegation worries to eventually get things heading in the right direction this time round.

Goals tend to be few and far between when Stevenage take to the field - they have a very low goals for tally of just 28, and they are amongst the meanest defences in League Two, with just 31 against (two better than table-toppers Cheltenham).  

It has to be Elliott List.

He has nine goals and two assists from his 37 outings and he remains the biggest threat for the Boro.

Versatile and able to play a number of roles, either up front or in the middle of the park, he's hit a good run of form with six goals in his last 15 games.

He'll need to be monitored as he's already stated in his club interviews that he's out to prove himself this season.

December 2020 brought a convincing home victory for United with goals from Nick Anderton, Josh Kayode, Lewis Alessandra and Joe riley making up the 4-0 win. Luke Prosser was sent off with 15 minutes left to play to compund the misery for the visitors.

The only meeting of these teams in the Covid hit 2019/20 season was in September, where a brace from Harry McKirdy and a goal from Nathan Thomas were enough to cancel out a double strike from Kurtis Guthrie.

The Boro picked up where they had left off the previous season when they came north in September 2018. Carlisle were made to pay for early missed chances when Ben Kennedy scored a beauty after the break, and there was more disappointment when an Adam Campbell header crashed against the post late in the day.

Our visit to the Lamex in January 2018 was a tight affair but it was United who created the better of the chances, with Danny Grainger and Jamie Devitt both going close from first half free kicks. Sam Cosgrove could have wrapped things up when he was played clean through but, in the end, neither side could find a way to break the deadlock.

It was another tough one for the Blues almost exactly two years ago when early second half goals from Kennedy and Tom Pett put Boro in cruise control as they saw their way through to a comfortable three points.

The last time we had him as our man in the middle was for our 4-1 away win at Forest Green in January 2020. A Josh Kayode goal complemented a career-first hat-trick for Nathan Thomas, and Nick Anderton, Aaron Hayden and Elliot Watt were all carded for their efforts in that game.

Prior to that it was way back in April 2018 at the County Ground in Swindon. The game was a 0-0 draw and Jamie Devitt and Ashley Nadesan had their names taken on the day.

We also met up with him for our 2-2 draw with Chesterfield in October 2017. Danny Grainger and Richie Bennett bagged our goals and Grainger had his name taken, along with Gary Liddle.
