GOOD WHEN THEY STAND OFF
Eric Kinder spoke to us about the 4-0 victory over Blackpool:
"We didn't really start the game as well as I would have liked. I thought that we were a bit slow and we weren't passing it quickly enough.
It took us 10 or 15 minutes to get going and we settled down a bit once we got our first goal. That came when Mark Sloan closed a defender down and the ball ran loose. He then got to it first, went round the keeper and scored. I was pleased about that because it was a reward for the work that he has done over the last few weeks. He knows that if he does press defenders better than he has been doing then he will create chances, and the proof was there for that with this one.
It was something that we talked about all week with the strikers. I told them that if they worked the defence then mistakes would happen, and it is good to see something that we have practiced pay dividends on the pitch.
We completely dominated the first half after that. We made five or six really good chances and Ryan Bowman doubled our lead with the best goal of the game. He spotted the keeper slightly off his line and he hit one from about 25-yards out that flew into the net. It was a fantastic finish because he knew exactly what he was doing.
We had numerous chances after that and it was a case that the game should have been dead and buried by half time. We were playing really well but we didn't get the third until right on half time. Ryan Bowman got clear in his favourite position on the left hand side and cut in towards goal. The keeper came out but he poked the ball underneath him and finished it well.
We had a slow start again for the second half and their coach took a position on the touchline and almost played the game for them, barking instructions and keeping them moving. I knew exactly how he felt because I had to do the same in the Preston game, just to keep the score down.
We got back into our stride as the game went on and we started to dominate again and we were able to introduce one of our U16 players called Callum Killick. He did very well and it has given us another option, as well as a bit of back up, because he handled it well. We'll monitor him now and get him in as often as possible.
We continued to push forward and Bowman was brought down in the area. He got up and took the penalty himself, and he got what was his first hat-trick of the season.
James Wood was brought down straight after that but the referee clearly wasn't happy with the thought of giving two penalties within the space of 30 seconds and he waved play on. We're not bothered about that though as it had no bearing on the end result.
It was a different type of performance in this game. We had to grind a result out against Bury but we were able to play our football in this one. Blackpool let us play and we looked a good side at times. I've said for weeks that we don't move the ball quick enough and that can be our undoing. We find it difficult when a team gets into our faces. We haven't quite got used to the need to play one and two touch football. However, when people stand off us we tend to play through them.
We do play some good attacking football. Matt Osmond gets himself into some great positions and that's encouraging for us. We have strikers who want to get into the box and that's also something to work on.
The lads have got a run of home games and so far they have taken advantage of that. They have dropped a couple of clangers recently so they are all learning harsh lessons, but we have come up with a deal that if they win three in a row we will give them some time off for good behaviour. They have two of those under their belts, so if they win next week they might just be off the hook."
