Eric Kinder spoke to us about the final Youth game of the season against Preston:

"The day started badly for us when Tom Aldred and Steve Swinglehurst reported in with injuries, so that meant that we were suddenly stretched really thinly.

It's difficult enough to have to play Preston when you have a full side out, never mind you are missing two of your better players. It meant that I had to put Phil Towler at centre half and James Wood at left back, so that was a bit of a gamble.

We had an unbelievably poor start and we were 3-0 down after just 20 minutes. It was nothing less than we deserved because we were slow, unenthusiastic and we looked very tired. Once they scored the third I started to really worry because it could genuinely have gone on to be any score.

We had one chance during that first 45 minutes when Andy Cook had one cleared off the line, and that was the only time that we managed to actually press them back.

Our defence was all over the place and we were very lucky that we got to half time with just the three goals conceded.

We reorganised at half time by moving Law in to the back four beside Jamie Cleary, and we put Towler at left back. He looked much more comfortable there and before we knew it we had scored two really quick goals through Andy Cook. That put us right back in to the game.

His first was typical Cook when the ball landed at his feet 20-yards from goal and he smashed it in, then his second came when Liam Davison chased the ball down in the right hand corner. He got it to Ryan Bowman and his cross gave Andy Cook another volley to slot away.

It was a completely different game after that and we started to see much more of the ball. Cook had another volley late in the game that rebounded off the defender's shoulder, and that was going in, so it was just unlucky that the lad got himself in the way.

The positives to come out of the game were that we looked much better when we reorganised and we had enough about us to have a real go at it. I told them at half time that I wanted to see them win the second half well, and that I wanted to see them round the season off on a high. They responded to that, and that's credit to them.

I was impressed with the way that they put the first half behind them and we were unlucky not to come out with a point in the end.

Preston are a decent side and they always seem to raise their game when they play us, for some reason, and it turned out to be quite an exciting game. I went from thinking that it could be any score that Preston wanted it to be to being disappointed that we didn't come away with something, and I'm happy with that."
