Carlisle United is pleased to announce that defender Tom Aldred is on the shortlist for the Championship Manager Young Apprentice of the Year - League One category for the 2009 Football League Awards.

United Youth team manager Eric Kinder said: "Myself and Tom will go down there at the end of March and we'll see what happens with it all.
"The good thing about this award is that it isn't just about football. The fact that he has been playing well and has been called up by his country is added to the work that he does at college, the Blog that he does with the LFE, his attendance and discipline records and his overall progression, so it is a real pat on the back for the hard work that he has done over the course of the past two years.
"Even if he doesn't win the actual award itself, it is fantastic that he has been short-listed. That in itself is a real achievement and it is an excellent demonstration of what hard work and the right attitude can bring to a player, even one of a relatively young age. Now it's just a case of fingers crossed and wait and see what the award ceremony reveals."
