Eric Kinder spoke to us about the 2-0 Youth away win over Bury at the weekend:

Over the course of the last two or three weeks our results have been good but we haven't really produced the performance to go with it. As I keep saying, we have high standards that we try to keep to, and we have dropped below them in my opinion.

That was especially so against Mansfield Town last weekend where we got away with quite a lot. Our win against Accrington in the Youth Cup was comfortable, but again we didn't really get ourselves going. I've just felt that there is so much more in there than what we have been delivering, and that has been frustrating.

Finally, on Saturday, we got back to the standard of play that we have come to expect. That made it a very pleasing day for more than one reason.

The most pleasing aspect was the way that we went about the game. It's a difficult place to go, and it's not the easiest pitch to play on, so it was never going to be easy. Add on to that the fact that Aldred and Blake were away with the first team, and you might start to wonder which way it will go.

However, the rest of the squad wanted to prove to themselves and to everyone else in the club that they don't rely on just one or two players. They wanted to show that they can adapt if the squad is changed, and I think they did that in this game.

It's not too long ago that we lost Connor Tinnion for two weeks, and we won all of our fixtures whilst he was out. We've now lost Jonny and Tom for fantastic reasons - for the right reasons - and we have coped with it. Let's face it, if any more of the squad get the same chances as those two then I'll be biting the gaffer's hand off and sending them.

I was really interested to see how Connor Tinnion was going to react to losing his best mate from midfield - Jonny Blake - and I couldn't have asked for any more. He was the best player on the field. It got to the point where they had to foul him to stop him. He showed us what a good player he is.

So, the lads who played for me on Saturday wanted to show us that they could do the job without two very influential players. I have to say, they were magnificent. It's the best performance that I have seen from them since the first half against Morecambe.

It was 0-0 at half time, but we never looked in any danger. Andy Cook should have scored after quarter of an hour because he was put clean through. He tried to toe poke it round the keeper but he's gone for the narrow angle instead of going for the big one and it bobbled past the post.

That was our best chance of the half, but it didn't really affect us when it was missed. We came out after the break and we dominated the game.

It was no surprise when we took the lead because it was always on the cards. Tinnion took a free kick from the left hand side and he managed to curl it round and behind the back four. Chris McDougall challenged for it with a defender, and there is a bit of a debate as to who got the final touch. Chris is adamant that it came off him, so we are happy to credit him with the goal rather than show it as an own goal against their defender. He deserved his goal because he has put a lot of effort in to the game, and it's a good reward for him.

We had to wait until the 88th minute to get our second, but there was never any real worry that we were going to concede. What I have to say here is that it was a goal that was well worth the wait.

Liam Davison picked the ball up on the edge of the box and his first touch was terrific. It allowed him to swivel away from his marker and he then smashed it in to the bottom corner. It's right up there with the best goals that we have scored this season.

It was a good day for us, all things told, and it almost goes without saying that it extends this run we are on to 15 games unbeaten. Our immediate aim now is to get through to Christmas and remain unbeaten. That would make it an 18-game run, and it would be one heck of an achievement. Hopefully we can do it.

Team - Mitchell, Lakeland, Cleary, Duffy, Swinglehurst, Law, Seaton, Davison, Tinnion, Cook, McDougall (Bowman 75). Subs - Gillespie, Sloan, Bonnor.

Eric Kinder on the new substitute - James Bonnor is a Centre of Excellence U16 player from Barrow. He was originally at Blackburn but was released by them, and they informed me that he was available. I've seen him play on several Sundays recently and I think he has earned himself the chance to step up. He thoroughly enjoyed his day, even though he didn't get on, and I know that he is desperate to team up with us again. The best description I can give of him is that he is a tough tackling full back.
