WE CONTROLLED MOST OF IT
Eric Kinder spoke to us about the 1-0 away win over Blackpool:
"It's another good win for us, which I'm pleased about, but it wasn't our best performance.
We didn't have a shot on target until the 85th minute, and that is just not like this group of players at all.
Mark Gillespie saved a penalty, so I suppose it was one of those games where you don't play at your best but you get the result anyway.
The most disappointing thing from it was the fact that we didn't get much right in the final third. We got in to some good areas, but the final pass, the cross ... whatever we tried to do final, we made a mess of it.
We had control of most of the game, and we started off looking alright, but it just wouldn't run for us.
The two lads up front found it tough today, because they didn't get it their own way. Perhaps we could say that they were both a bit off colour, and we had to take Ryan Bowman off at half time when he picked up a scrape on his ankle. We had the FA Cup game in mind for that one, so we decided to protect him.
I'd say the first half was very even but, like I say, we didn't create anything of note.
Just after the break we had Simon Lakeland get himself in to a muddle over in the corner and the lad jinked away from him. Once they were in the box, someone brought the lad down - I'm not sure who - and it was a definite penalty.
Gillespie went the right way, down to his right hand side, and managed to pull off a superb save. I thought that may give us the lift we needed but the game became a case of lump and pump and hope we can get on the end of it.
We started to get frustrated with one another, and we just found it really difficult to get our passing game going.
Then, in the 85th minute, Liam Davison made a run in to the box and cut it back for Andy Cook. He went through two challenges and squared it to Chris McDougall. He changed his feet and bent it round the keeper for what was a lovely finish to a good move.
The positives to come from the game are that Mark Gillespie has saved a penalty in his first full game, we've kept a clean sheet, we've got everyone fit for the Hartlepool game and McDougall has got his first for the club. Looking at it all that way, I suppose it isn't too bad.
A really telling thing for us is that I walked in to the dressing room at full time and they all had their heads down. This group of lads know when they have been poor and they know when they have been good, and they react to that. They didn't need me to tell them that this game hadn't been a good one. By their reaction, anyone seeing them would think they had just been thumped.
The standards that we have set ourselves are high, and we didn't really look like scoring. We know that we have to be better than that.
On the other hand, we never really looked like conceding, other than from the penalty that they won. Defensively we were fine, with both Cleary and Aldred looking strong. It was the forward play in the final third that let us down.
It's a lesson for us all, because we were getting used to having everything our own way. This shows us that we have to work for what we get. At one point during the second half I felt that we could have played to midnight with just us on the pitch and we still wouldn't have scored.
The FA Cup game will look after itself, in my view. We won't play like that again. If we do, then we'll be out of the competition, it's as simple as that.
I think they can all still remember the excitement of last season, and they want some more. Hartlepool won't roll over, it'll be tough, but I think we'll see a very good game."
