AN UNBELIEVABLE FIRST HALF
Eric Kinder gave us his reaction to the Youth game on Saturday:
"This was a day of very mixed fortunes for us.
For the first 45 minutes our football was magnificent. Then, we have Connor Tinnion sent off, when it should really have been an incident that brought yellow cards for the two players involved, and that really upset our balance.
We now lose Tinnion for three games, and I have to feel really sorry for the lad. It just wasn't a sending off offence.
That decision spoiled what had been a flawless display from our team. We had an incredible 45 minutes in the first half, because we really were outstanding.
At times I was thinking to myself that it was as good as it is ever going to get - we really were that good. We passed it, we moved, we wanted the ball and we created a host of chances. We had four different goalscorers, and it was set up to be one of our best games for a long time.
During the break I told them to go out and really enjoy themselves, and express themselves, for the rest of the game, and that was destroyed within a few minutes with the red card decision from the officials.
The lads were shocked by it, there's no two ways about it, and it was a much more difficult second half. They lost their composure, but that's because they were trying to work out what was going on.
I am very passionate about this game, but I will probably find that I will be reported to the authorities simply because I tried to talk to them about the decisions they made afterwards. That is very disappointing.
Like I say, the huge positive from this game was the way we approached the first half. The standard of football they played was exceptional. It was one of those examples of when it all comes together in every department.
It was a horrible, wet and windy day, but they didn't let that affect them at all. I hate saying that it's as good as it will get, because I always want improvement, but if we play like that in every game then there won't be too many teams that will match us.
I may be asking too much to expect them to reproduce it, but I'll be a very happy coach if they do.
We opened the scoring when Andy Cook got on to a Ryan Bowman nod back from a Tinnion corner.
Andy Cook then received the ball after a six man move, and he fed it on for the run of Jonny Blake. He kept his head and it was a magnificent finish ... and even moreso when you consider that he had started running from deep in his own half.
Our third came when Cook hit the inside of the post with a superb shot, and it rebounded across and behind the keeper. Matt Duffy reacted quickly and put it in the back of the net.
Liam Davison wrapped the scoring up when he headed Tinnion's free kick past the keeper, and we were all feeling very satisfied by then.
We had other opportunities - Bowman and Cook hit the post in the first half and Bowman smacked the bar very early in the second, so we could have run up quite a score if we had kept it going.
They never really threatened, although they did get one back immediately after Tinnion was sent off.
We really were a joy to watch in this game, so they can be pleased with themselves.
The sending off definitely spoiled it for us, we can't hide away from that.
I will remember what they did and the way they played in that first half, though, and that will be what we will talk about on Monday."
