The United Youth team lost out in their first pre-season friendly of the summer as Everton overturned a first half one goal deficit to win a closely contested encounter.

Eric Kinder explained: "The lads went out there and did exactly what I asked them to do. They gave it absolutely everything for an hour, so much so that David Moyes congratulated each and every one of them at the final whistle. On top of that, we have already been invited back next season, and that is a pat on the back for the way we tried to play the game."

Ryan Bowman scored the United goal in the first half, to give his side the lead, but a 45-yard screamer and a deflected shot were enough to get the Toffees out of a potentially sticky situation.
