WREXHAM YOUTH 0 - 2 UNITED YOUTH
Eric Kinder spoke to us yesterday about another good away win for his side:
"We were good today, I'm pleased to say.
The conditions were fantastic for us and it is a really nice facility that they have. The pitch was magnificent and we played some really decent football.
The back four were really strong, especially the two centre halves. They had a little wobble against Wigan, as we discussed, but they looked like two really commanding figures today.
I gave Ryan Bowman his first taste of U18 football, and he had an excellent game. I played him for just over an hour, and he looks really comfortable with it all. He can be proud of his efforts, and I think he will do really well. He looks a very decent signing for us.
They were a good side, but we were better than them today. We had a decent first half, but we had to wait right until the end of the first 45 minutes to get ourselves ahead. We had been playing football from the back, we got our passing game going ... but the first goal was the exact opposite of all that.
It is funny how these things can happen. They knocked a long ball forward and Alex had to race out to beat their player to it. He smashed it straight down the middle of the park and it caught their back four on the hop. Andy Cook ran on to it, and he stayed calm and was able to slot it away.
We came under a bit of pressure for the first ten minutes of the second half, but we dominated it after that. We then got ourselves a free kick and Jonny Blake floated it to the back post. Matty Wood got himself free and buried it with a poweful header, and that was us 2-0 up.
We were able to coast it for the rest of the game, because that knocked the stuffing out of them. Connor Tinnion almost scored a wonderful goal in the 90th minute, when he went right through a number of tackles, but he was really unlucky to see his shot come away off the post. Yet again he has gone for the chip, even though we keep asking him to blast it every now and then. You do get sick of telling him that but, to be fair, it was great play from him anyway.
Overall, I had an easy job as the Youth manager today. The back four have had very little to do, but that's because they all worked hard to make it that way. Steven and Connor caused trouble almost every time they had the ball, and the forwards were always available, so it's been a really good morning for us. We did ask a question about the character of the side, following the last result, and they have answered that one for me in the manner that I wanted and expected them to.
We have Chester next week, then we have a really big run when we play Blackpool and Wigan. We'll know after these games where we stand. If we can beat Chester next week then it will make things very interesting for us. So, we'll wait and see how that goes."
