Eric Kinder spoke to us about the trip to Shrewsbury once the full time whistle had blown:

"We won, but it wasn't our best game.

We could actually have been ahead with just 20 seconds on the clock, because Steve Hindmarch was put clean through. Unfortunately he dragged it wide.

I think if that had gone in then things might have been different, and we would have settled, and that would have started us going. It didn't pan out like that, though, and it became very, very scrappy. We can play much better than we did in the first half, but we just weren't on the pace of the game at all.

It was better in the second half, and we went ahead on 60 minutes from a Blake corner that Cook flicked on at the near post. Connor Tinnion was there to tap it in, so I was pleased with that. To be fair, we played some decent football after that, but it took us an hour to get there. We took hold of the game, and it was one way traffic for a while.

The second one came from good hold up play by Andy Cook. He brought Ged Dalton in to it, by playing him through, and he kept calm and slotted it underneath the keeper.

Ged Dalton retunred the favour right at the end when he went wide then pulled it back towards the edge of the area. Andy Cook got hold of it and smashed it in, and it was an excellent finish.

I've had a bit of a go at Cooky, because I thought he was a little bit lazy, but then you sit back and take a look at his contribution and maybe you think you're being too critical. He's set two up and scored one, and he's telling me that I'm being harsh on him. I just want him to understand what the full role of the front man is, because it's not just coming alive when the ball is in their half.

I thought our back four were outstanding today. They weren't the best side we've faced, we accept that, but they never threatened at all, and it looked like we had some very, very good defenders out there in this one.

Today gave me the chance to play Michael Lewis up front, and to have a look at what he can do. He's a young lad from Cleator Moor, and he did alright. The pace of the game was a little bit too quick for him, but I expected that. He's come from junior football with his club and I have chucked him right in at the deep end, obviously because Gary Madine wasn't available. Michael tired after about an hour, and he's a player that I can now have a think about. It's always good to be able to look at young Cumbrian lads, and see what they can do, so, as I say, I can have a think about him now.

We have got ourselves a decent win from this game, but it doesn't stop me from getting frutsrated with what I've seen. As I keep telling this group, I know what they can do and I know how they can play, and when I don't see them produce it, it can get to be annoying. However, I can understand it, and I know that it is more than likely that their minds were elsewhere. The opportunity we have on Thursday is a massive one. It's a chance for us to do something that very few people will have expected, and that is to get to the semi-final of the biggest competition we enter.

Today is a different game, though, and that's why I am frustrated, because we have fallen short of what we have come to expect. But, and here we are again, we've won an away game by 3 goals - all of them good goals as well, we've kept a clean sheet, and it can be put down to me being ultra-critical again. Maybe I am, but I'd rather be that way than telling these boys they were good, when they weren't. It keeps them on their toes, and it keeps them coming in and doing their best to improve.

We'll do the same with this game as we do every game. We'll take the positives and the negatives out of it, and we'll see what we can do with them. The real positives we can take from it are that we stepped up a gear significantly in the second half, which pleased me, we scored three and it could easily have been six or seven, and we played some very good football at times. The negative side is that we can't start a game like that. We have to play for 90 minutes and anything else is simply not acceptable.

I've asked these lads myself as to whether they want me to be critical or whether they would rather I take a different approach. They all agreed that they wanted to be pushed all the way, so that's what I'm here to do. They know when I'm happy, and they know when I'm not. They've worked with me for long enough now, so they know the standards, and they know that I'll be up front if I don't get them. The thing I am very aware of is that there is a heck of a lot more to come from this group, and I'm determined that they produce it for us. They can only get better, but only if they are willing to listen and learn. Thankfully they all seem to be on board with that.

Aston Villa are treating us with the utmost repsect. They were here again today and, actually, they have had us watched on a number of occasions. I rested Gary Madine, so he should be fine for that game, and I took Steve Hindmarch off after about an hour, simply because he was starting to feel his ankle again. There is no point taking any risks, as Thursday is our big game. I wasn't going to play this game in any different way anyway. Villa have done their homework, so we can't hide anything from them now,

It's all down to Thursday night and whether they are up for it, and whether we give it everything. It's been glorious sunshine for the Shrewsbury game, but Thursday night in Cumbria will be anything but that. We've got a chance if we match them, as we did against Manchester United, so it's one we can really look forward to. We know they're a good side and that it's going to take hard work and effort, and we'll need to take our chances when they come, but we're capable of that."

Team - Mitchell (Jamieson 65), Brown, Aldred, Wordsworth, Duffy, Hindmarch (Seaton 60), Wood, Blake, Tinnion, Cook, Lewis (Dalton 60). Subs - Dowson, Lakeland.
