Eric Kinder spoke to us about the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Accrington Stanley:

"I am very disappointed with what we produced today, it simply was not good enough.

We were very complacent in everything that we did, and we approached it as if the result was a foregone conclusion. I'm afraid you just can't do that in this game.

Whether the lads have got Wednesday on their minds, I really don't know. Whatever the reason, it was an extremely below par performance and not something I would want to see from them again.

The problem we have is that this is a group of young players and they are starting to believe their own publicity. They're full of themselves and they seem to have lost sight of the fact that there is still a heck of a lot of hard work to do. They took to that pitch this morning and expected to win just because they had bothered to turn up in the first place. I could see it from them in the warm up, they were cocky and bouncing around as if there was not a problem in the world. I tried to warn them but it obviously hasn't registered because they ended up getting exactly what they deserved today.

Having said that, we did create eight very good chances, but we didn't take them. There seemed to be the attitude that if we missed one then another would come along, and it didn't really matter. You could see it in them. If they were tackled they had a look on their face as if to say - don't you know who I am, you can't tackle me - and they've come unstuck with having an approach to the game like that.

The only time they looked anywhere near urgent was with about 9 minutes left to play, when Accrington scored. Suddenly it dawned on them that they could actually lose the game, so they started to play. It's too late by then, I'm afraid, as we saw with the final result.

It's a kick up the backside for them and, from what we've seen since they came back from the break, it's probably one that they need.

It's a very difficult pitch to play on, but we knew that already. I spent ten years there, so I was able to warn them about that, because it is a very hard ground to play your football at. However, I really don't think that there's any excuse for what we did this morning.

I am extremely disappointed with the way we went about our business. At the moment, they expect to walk out on to the pitch in any game and they will win it. It doesn't work like that. I went to watch Arsenal play Burnley in the Youth Cup last night, and Arsenal are probably the best Youth team I have ever seen. They keep the ball but, even more importantly, they work hard as a team when they don't have it. As good as they are, it is clear that they know the amount of work that has to be done to win a game, and they all do it.

Compare that to the attitude that we displayed this morning and it doesn't even come close. If we perform like that on Wednesday then we will not stand a chance.

I always look for positives, and maybe we can say that this result has come at the right time. They are sat in the dressing now and there isn't a sound, because they are all feeling very sorry for themselves. It's a shock to us all, picking up a result like this, because we have got used to them playing well and really working hard. The penny had dropped before Christmas, but there's work to do again now. I'm sure the teams around us at the top of the table will look at the scoreline and rub their hands, because it will come as a shock to them as well.

Accrington have been our bogey team, that's four points they have taken from us now, and that's with them having only won the two games all season. With absolutely no disrespect intended, they just aren't as good as we are, but we've really let ourselves down. We've started with a low tempo, expecting things just to happen, and that's allowed Accrington to get in to the game and gain confidence. That's the end of our unbeaten run, but it all comes down to what we did that has caused it.

I'd go as far as to say we looked like a team of Big Time Charlies out there today, and we just aren't good enough to have an attitude like that. We don't have a blame culture in our Youth set up, so I have asked the lads, at the end of the game, what I should be using as an excuse. Was it the pitch, the weather, the wind, the journey, the officials ... the groundsman ... maybe even the ball ... but they have all been honest enough to hold their hands up and say that it was down to them. That, in itself, is a positive, because it means that we can move forward from it. I would not have accepted any excuses today, because that would have been a sign of weakness, so I'm pleased that they have held their hands up. They realise that they got what they got today because of a very poor overall attitude.

To their credit, they will train on Sunday and they all want to do that. We'll work on shape and a few other things, and blow the cobwebs off from today, and it's good for me that they want to do that. I can tell from their faces in there that they realise that they have dropped a massive clanger in this one. They've gone in to a match where they have acted like spoiled brats, and nobody was really prepared to take responsibility for anything. It was always going to be somebody else who would do it.

I did say to them afterwards that I was pleased that this had happened. They couldn't understand that, because I was telling them that I was pleased we'd lost, but I don't think they fully understand what I meant. It goes without saying that I am extremely annoyed about the result, but the thing I am pleased about is the fact that I really do think the attitude has been wrong, and this could be just what they needed to wake them up again. As I say, if we play Manchester United with anything like that attitude then we will come really, really unstuck. However, I'm sure we won't, because they'll go on to the pitch and know that they can't coast it.

With Accrington Stanley it was almost as if they were saying - well, you're not good enough to be in the same League as us. They've now got bloody noses, simply because they allowed themselves to think like that.

I worked with Graeme Souness for two years and he would always say that it was how you reacted to a knock down like this that mattered, and not the knock down itself. We can either get back up and fight or we can lie on the floor and let all the hard work go to waste, so it's up to us now.

I'll be telling them tomorrow, when we get in to training, that if we see Manchester United approach our game with the same kind of attitude and lack of respect that we showed towards Accrington Stanley, then we'll be coming away with a victory under our belts. That's how bad we were today. We showed them absolutely no respect at all. I'm afraid I can't accept that kind of attitude.

Grant Carson played his last Youth game for us today. He joins the professionals next week, so we won't see him again. Alex Mitchell will be back for Wednesday, with John Jamieson as his back up, so I'd like to thank Grant for all of his efforts and wish him luck as he steps up. I told him earlier that when he writes his book in ten years time he can say that his last ever Youth game was played on the same pitch where Eric Kinder was a living legend for ten years. He doesn't know how lucky he is to have trodden on the same turf, he really doesn't.

I took Connor Tinnion off in the second half because he felt his hamstring tighten up. As soon as he told me I made the switch, because I wanted to protect him for Wednesday. We'll have a look at him tomorrow, see how he is, and we'll make a decision from there.

The only other positive thing I think we can take from today is that we didn't lose to a side that was up there with us. I know we may have lost a bit more ground, but it would have been much worse if they'd been top three or four with us. I know the other teams in the top half will be rubbing their hands, but it's up to us to make sure that it doesn't impact too much.

Mind you, I think we can only afford one more defeat and then we can forget winning the League. The lads really want it, but they've almost cut their own throat, and if that does happen then I'll switch my target towards recruiting new players and preparing for next year. The ball is in their court for that. "
