HOW DO WE RESPOND
Eric Kinder gave us his reaction to the Youth game against Burnley at the weekend:
"The day started off really badly for us. We got to the ground to find that the mini-bus had been vandalised, and we had to put black bags over the spaces where the windows should have been at the back of the bus.
So, that got us off to completely the wrong start but, to be fair, Burnley were the best side that we have faced so far by a long way.
They were very quick with the ball at their feet and they were bigger and stronger than us. They do play the game the way that we like to see it played, and it's good for the lads to come up against a team like that.
They got a goal just before half time, and I felt that we could have done much better with that. They then got two in two minutes in the second half and that killed us off really. However, the lads never stopped going and I was happy with the way they kept trying to play.
We had a couple of injury worries to deal with as well, and Ged Dalton picked up a knock that set his nose off bleeding for a good 20 or 25 minutes. We just couldn't stop it. Hopefully he'll be ok after that, but it was nasty for him at the time.
I'm actually not too downbeat because we played some good football at times, and that's what we are asking these lads to do. A game like today helps you to realise that you aren't quite there yet, so it will help us as we start to work on different aspects of the game with the team.
Dan Wordsworth was excellent today. He has made giant strides this season, and he should be pleased with how he is playing. The lads up front have worked hard and didn't let their heads drop, and I think everyone knows now what we expect from a defensive point of view. That's not just the back four either, the whole team are starting to pick up on what they need to do when we don't have the ball.
What I will look for now is how the team responds to this defeat. I want to see them come back with the right attitude. Like I say, we have work to do but it is all about learning and development, and how the players go about things as they try to improve.
For me, I've learned more today than in any of the previous matches that we have had this season, and that is really useful for me. I know more about the areas I need to concentrate on so that I am getting the best from, and doing the best for, this group of players. I'm always happy when I can see things like that, so it has been very beneficial overall."
