YOUTH BOSS ON THE 2-2 DRAW WITH BURY
Eric Kinder gave us his reaction to the draw with Bury this morning:
"We went 1-0 down from a set piece after 8 minutes.
We didn't set off as bright as we normally do, and the goal that they scored prompted us in to a bit of action.
Andrew Cook hit the post and then John Seaton got on the end of a corner to level it at one a piece.
Cooky had another chance when he got clear, but he skewed his left foot shot wide. Mind you, he had time to bring it down and hit it with his right foot, but these things happen.
We finished the half off looking very strong, and then opened in the second half with a great chance for us. Stephen Hindmarch put the ball over the bar after some great work from Andrew Cook.
We went 2-1 up through Matthew Wood who got on to another little through ball from Andrew Cook.
He's had a decent game today the big lad. With a little bit more care with his finishing he could have had two or three goals, but his all round play is improving week by week. Like I say, he found Woody, and he then went through to slot it home and keep his goal scoring run going. We know we'll get goals from the two forwards, and we didn't get many goals from midfield last year, so with Woody scoring his third of the season that isn't too bad for him, or for us.
We fell asleep again late on and got caught out. Unfortunately we also got punished for it, and they equalised.
Overall I'm very disappointed with the outcome because we played well enough to win the game by three or four more, but they are young players and they will make mistakes.
They have to make sure they learn from them. I must say the two central defenders were very good, especially Dan Wordsworth.
Dan has had a terrific week. He got great reports coming back from Preston, and he was outstanding in the Reserves. It was probably the best I've seen him play, last Tuesday night, and he's carried that on today. I thought he looked strong and used the ball well. He's come back for the start of this season in fantastic form, and long may that continue.
Simon Lakeland has been given the all clear to start training again, so he was a sub, although I had no intention of using him. He'll resume full training on Monday.
Gary Madine came on as a sub for 20 minutes at the end, after recovering from his injured toe and, again, he will resume full training on Monday. That means that we have a full squad again, which is good news."
Team: Carson, Brown, Aldred, Wordsworth, Duffy, Seaton, Blake, Wood, Tinnion (Madine 67), Cook, Hindmarch.
