Youth team Coach Dave Wilkes spoke to us about the 3-2 season opening win over Walsall on Saturday:

"We were losing 2-0 after ten minutes and I honestly have no idea how that happened. We were playing the better football, but they had two shots and scored. We just didn't deserve to be behind.

Credit to Walsall, though, because it was a great header and a well taken shot that brought them their goals, and I have no complaints about either. Our lads came back really well, and they deserve the praise for the way they played today.

Steve Hindmarch won us a penalty, and Gary Madine stepped up to put that one away. Shortly after that we pulled level when Steve Hindmarch went on a run and put a cross/shot in to the box. It went across the keeper and crept in to the bottom corner, and it wasn't a bad effort at all. That made it 2-2 at half time, which we were very pleased about, especially as it was the least that we deserved.

The second half was good football all round in my opinion. It was a really good game and both sides gave it their all. We finally got the winner in the last ten minutes when we moved the ball quite well. Michael Dowson got it to Steve Hindmarch, and he put it inside for Gary Madine. He scuffed his shot, which put the keeper off balance, and it fell kindly for Jonny Blake, and he buried it with a left foot shot, struck first time.

Grant Carson was called in to play with an excellent penalty save as well, and obviously that was an important moment from the game.

It was a cracking game of football, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Credit goes to both sides for playing the game properly and for going for it. It's exactly the start that we would have wanted because you can't ask for more than winning your away games.

Like I say, every one of our players played their part in this win and every single one of them deserves full credit for it. It was a superb fight back and I am really, really pleased for them."
