CHRIS MAKES IT 1,500
Posted on: Thu 11 Jun 2009
Sales of season tickets for Carlisle United smashed through the 1,500 barrier yesterday as the rush continued to cash in on cut-price deals under the club's Early Buy option before Friday's 5pm deadline.
Chris Dixon, 27, snapped up the 1,500th season ticket for the 2009-10 campaign when he called in at Brunton Park to buy one for the Paddock, where he watches the Blues with four friends.
Despite being a regular at home games last season, this was the first time that Kendal-born Chris, who lives in Carlisle, has ever bought a season ticket.
He explained: "I think I only missed one or possibly two home games last season but I always just paid £16 cash on the day match by match. Then one of my pals phoned me up the other day to say he'd worked out that I could save nearly £100 if I bought a season ticket. It worked out around five-and-a-half free games over the season. I didn't realise. It's really good value - and the savings are even greater before Friday under this Early Buy option."
Chris, who is a water quality officer for United Utilities, has only just returned from honeymoon in the Caribbean, having got married the Saturday after United beat Millwall on the last day of the season. He paid £280 for his season ticket, adding: "Last year was my first as a regular at Brunton Park. I started watching them when I moved up to Carlisle from Penrith with my new job just over a year ago. We go to quite a few away games as well. We'd struggled to get tickets for Leeds away the previous season but with the season ticket I should be okay for anything. Hopefully we are due a good cup run."
Chris was among 79 more United supporters who bought season tickets yesterday, taking the total sold so far to 1,502. Each was able to save up to £30 on the normal cost of a season ticket by buying one before tomorrow's final Early Buy deadline of 5pm on June 12.
Besides calling in at the ticket office at Brunton Park, season tickets can also be purchased by ringing its direct line on 0844 371 1921 or by emailing ticket.printing@carlisleunited.co.uk.
This is the third successive year that season ticket prices have been frozen by United, meaning they are available for adults from just £280, with seniors starting at £205, juniors from £145 and children from £40.
Fans can also spread the cost by paying in five instalments for season tickets, which offer savings of up to £180 on the total cost of matchday admission prices over 23 league games.
Season tickets for adults cost £280 to stand or £360 to sit if bought before June 12, rising to £310 or £390 respectively afterwards. The same prices apply to family membership for one adult and up to two children. For seniors, season tickets cost £205 or £250, rising to £225 and £265. Juniors are priced £145 or £160, rising to £160 and £185. Children are £40 or £60, rising to £45 or £65.
These prices represent the equivalent of between five and nine free games on full match-day admission prices.
United had 2,700 season ticket holders last season, a total bettered only once in the club's history, and are now well on their way towards that figure, with still nearly two months to go until the big kick off.
The League One fixtures for the new season are published next Wednesday, with former Premier League outfits Norwich, Southampton and Charlton among United's new opponents. The 2009-10 League One campaign starts on Saturday August 8.
