SEASON TICKET SALES GOING WELL

Carlisle United are today pleased to announce that season ticket sales for the 2008/09 campaign are above the level they were at for last season at the corresponding time.
As of Wednesday July 23, 2008, Blues fans have so far purchased 2,479 season tickets for the new season, which kicks off a fortnight on Saturday. The figure represents a rise of 26 - or just over 1% - compared to 2,453 on the same date last year.
Managing director and joint owner John Nixon said: "I think it is brilliant the way season ticket sales are continuing to go over the closed season, especially with the credit crunch which is hitting everyone across the country. The club were certanly feeling the effects of those financial hardships for people all the way through last season, yet we still managed to record our highest average league attendances for more than 20 years, if you include the Leeds play-off game."
"Having attended several Football League meetings in recent months, I know many other clubs are continuing to face a strugggle to get season ticket sales in over the summer. A lot of them have had a drop in sales. We are still optimistic that more Carlisle United supporters will buy season tickets before the start of the new season on August 9 and before our first home fixture the following Saturday against Crewe Alexandra. We are still working, as has been shown yesterday, to bring in players that will excite the fans before then."
Traditionally, there is a late rise in demand for season tickets at the end July, which is pay day for a lot of people on monthly salaries, and as the first home game approaches.
John added: "Just four years ago, I remember we were selling fewer than 1,000 season tickets. I can recall it being a big thing when we broke through the 1,000 barrier. Then came 1,500 and 1,700 and now we are selling around 2,700 plus per season. I'd like to thank all the fans for their support. It is crucial to the future success of the club."
