Carlisle United have been drawn in Group 1 of this season's totesport.com league cup and will face Morecambe, Preston North End and Tranmere Rovers for the right to progress to the next round.
The group stages, which kick off at the end of this month, will see the Cumbrians play once at home and twice away in a three-way round robin of fixtures.
Manager Greg Abbott said: "This is a good competition for us as it should have an extra competitive edge.
"We will want to do things properly and go further if possible, so it's one that we will approach in the right way."
