WREXHAM RESERVE MATCH REACTION

Posted on: Wed 05 Sep 2007

Eric Kinder talks about the 2-2 draw at Wrexham:

"We didn't start with the tempo that we wanted at all.

It took us a little time to get in to the game, and that was probably because they put out quite an experienced side.

We went 1-0 down when they sent in a cross from the left that we didn't pick up in the middle. After that we got to grips with the game, and started playing like we wanted. The passing was good and the tempo was much, much better.

We equalised after 37 minutes through Danny Carlton, who got on to a through ball from Luke Joyce, and he finished with a right footed shot across the goalkeeper.

For the rest of the half we dominated, and we played really well.

In the second half we started like we finished the first, and to be be fair we had the majority of possession throughout the game. We went 2-1 up after some good midfield play, and Danny Carlton picked up the ball at the back post to slot home a close range finish. All the way through the game Danny was a handful, and he did himself no harm at all.

We put out a pretty young side, and even Darren Campion, who is in on trial at the back, is only 18.

Martin, the French centre half, played as well, and both lads acquitted themselves pretty well. Darren looked far better in his second game for us, obviously he knew a few of the boys and he settled down and did fine.

Both him and Martin will have a meeting with Greg tomorrow morning and we'll see where that takes us.

About 15 minutes from the end they got a penalty - and it was never a penalty, by the way. Their left winger, who was tricky, went down under a challenge with Matt Brown and Martin. He just fell on the floor, and the referee gave a penalty.

At the other end, Shaun has been pushed two handed on his back, pushed over, and we don't get that decision.

It's only Reserve team football, but you do come away feeling a little bit cheated.

We've come away with a 2-2 draw, and on the balance of play and the penalties given, and not given, we should have won the game.

Overall, though, I was delightedwith the attitude of the older players, who have given Greg something to think about, and the younger ones have certainly stated their case for being selected for future Reserve team games."

Team: Bradley, Brown, Campion, Joyce, Ekani, Wordsworth, Hindmarch, McDermott, Carlton (Blake 75), Vipond, Hackney. Subs: Carson, Wood, Aldred, Duffy.
