Greg Abbott and Jason McAteerWe caught up with the Reserve team Boss after the 4-1 victory over Wrexham yesterday afternoon:

"It was an end of season Reserve game, we were 1-0 up at half time, but we didn't really play to the levels we are looking for in terms of pace and tempo.

Players are disappointed to be playing in the Reserves, but they have standards and we have standards. We have to try our best in every game, and every time we play we have to give it everything we can.

We've had a lot of Reserve games in the past few weeks, but that happens. You get a glut of games at the end of the season because there is nothing over Christmas, and you get games called off because of bad weather.

Players that aren't in your first team are generally unhappy, sometimes they get negative thoughts in their heads, but they have to be positive. Our first team is flying high and we want players who will give the manager a big headache on selection. Today we maybe haven't given him that, even though we won the game 4-1.

Karl Hawley got through the first half with no problems. How he is tomorrow we will have to see - that's down to Dolly and Karl to decide whether he's fully fit, but he got through 45 minutes ok, which we're very pleased about.

Gary Madine came on and I think he has been a big plus this season, with his performances and his goals. He's scored in Reserve games, and he's one that will keep developing, and we hope that next season he'll do what Steve has done, and push through to give us selection problems for the first team. We do need to remember that he's still very young, and he is still learning. It's nice to see though, he's got a refreshing attitude, a nice positive attitude, and that's good.

Johann's goals really sum up what he's all about. He's got everything in his locker to cause teams absolute mayhem. He's got tremendous pace, tremendous skill with an ability to go past people, and he's got a terrific shot with his left or right foot. We want to see more of that, and today he scored a wonderful goal right at the end. Like I've said, I think he can do that at any level if he gets his head sorted out and keeps learning, and listening to the advice people are giving him.

So, it was a really pleasing result and a better second half performance than the first. I think it took us a while to get out of the blocks, and we produced more of what we are looking for after the break.

The season isn't over yet by a long way, and we won't accept being below par. We have to keep driving the players on and getting that positive thought in their minds.

There are some big games to come, and we have to make sure that if they are pushed in to first team action then they can play at that pace, and that tempo, and have the mental toughness that they will need for the last two games.

It's going to be a massive battle, and it's a massive game for everyone on Saturday. That will be followed by another big effort from everyone at Scunthorpe, so we need to make sure that we are backing the first team up as much as we can. Every one of these players needs to be ready to play, if they are needed."
