Former-Youth captain Tom Aldred is another who impressed whilst with the YTS programme and earned himself a professional contract because of his efforts.

A calm and assured central defender, he teamed up with the Scotland U19 squad for their December 2008 training session thanks to his consistent performances at Youth and Reserve level for the Cumbrians.

He signed his first professional contract with the club mid-way through December 2008, keeping him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2010.
