21-year-old Hartlepool-born defender Evan Horwood joined the squad in the January 2008 transfer window from Sheffield United.
He gained experience whilst with the Blades with loan spells at Stockport, Scunthorpe, York, Chester and Darlington.
His most recent loan deal took him to the SPL, where he made 17 appearances for Scottish top flight newcomers Gretna, between August 2007 and January 2008.
A calm defender who is not averse to getting forward, his assured performances have added steel on the United left flank.
Under contract until the summer of 2010.
