Defender Sean McDaid joined United on a one-year deal in the summer of 2010.

The Harrogate-born left-back began his career at boyhood heroes Leeds United at the age of 10, playing in the same youth sides as England international James Milner. As a young player he was courted by both the English and Scottish youth sides before eventually opting to play for Scotland, who he has represented up to U19 level.

He advanced through the club's youth academy and reserve team but was released by the Elland Road outfit in the summer of 2005 without making a first-team appearance.

He was quickly snapped up by then League One outfit Doncaster Rovers and made his debut in a 3-2 defeat at Colchester. Despite scoring an own goal in that game, his performance was enough to keep him in the first team and he managed to hold down a starting place for the rest of the season as Rovers secured an impressive eight place finish, narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

His second season at the Keepmoat Stadium saw success in the Football League Trophy, beating Bristol Rovers 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. That was followed up by another solid performance in League One with a comfortable 11th place finish.

Rovers' success story continued the following season as they defeat Leeds United in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium but it would prove to be a bittersweet success for Sean, as he missed the game against his former club due to a knee injury.

The next 18 months proved a difficult time for Sean as he underwent a long rehab process and although he made his first team comeback against Middlesbrough in January 2010, he ended his five-year spell at the club in the summer of that year.

It wasn't long after his release that he was snapped up by United on a one-year deal with the option to extend to two years with the lively full-back keen to team up again with Greg Abbott, who had previously coached him at the Leeds United Academy.

Under contract until the summer of 2011.
