Leicester-born Stoke City trainee Lewis Neal joined United on a 6-month contract during the January 2009 transfer window.
He moved from Stoke to Preston in the summer of 2005 and made 73 appearances, scoring five goals, for the Lilywhites.
A month's loan spell at Notts County in December 2008 saw him play four games, but the temptation of a move up to Cumbria proved to be too much, and he signed within 48 hours of being told of the offer.
A nippy left winger with a good cross, he provides an exciting attacking outlet.
