A TERRIFIC POSITION
Hughie Mac gives his take on the recent home games:
"They were two very different matches, but good results in both cases.
The Brighton game wasn't an easy game to win, as they were a decent team on a good run. They played with that bit of confidence, plus we had that excellent result at Forest, and we could have had a bad reaction to that. We had to work hard for the result, but we deserved it - despite the bit of luck with the first goal!
I'm not too sure what happened with the Luton game. The first half wasn't brilliant, because of the weather, but we were well on top. The second half was a poor one though.
I don't think that was down to Luton, as I was disappointed with them. I have no idea what changed for the second half - we just didn't get the ball down and push it around and we seemed to lack the confidence in our own ability that we have had. Once Luton got their goal back we just seemed to go to pieces - and you wouldn't have believed it was the same team that has got us to this fantastic position in the League. It was three points though - and we got those even though we played badly, and that is the sign of a good team. I don't think we'll play as badly as that again this season - that was quite an eye-opener for them.
Danny Graham works really hard on his own up front and chases everything, and the midfielders are giving the opposition plenty to think about. It's certainly not a defensive formation. The standard we set on Saturday though was high enough to make it hard to pick the Man of the Match. It was good to see young Gary Madine getting a gradual introduction to first team football as this is the best way to build up his confidence. He's going to be a handful as he develops, you can already see that.
I was very, very disappointed with the fans on Tuesday night. It's something I don't want to see or hear again. Given the performance, the manager could have taken anybody off. There was no need for all that booing or applauding the substitution and I really felt for the boy, and I hope he doesn't let it affect him. He's just lacking that bit of confidence and it can take a while to settle in to new surroundings and a new team. No footballer goes out determined to have a bad game, so the crowd reaction was totally unnecessary.
I was disappointed too with the poor turnout of fans, especially on Tuesday. I know the weather was bad and Liverpool were on the TV, but Carlisle United are probably the best home team in all of the League, and we are near the top of League One challenging for promotion to the Championship, and generally playing some really good football. What more do they want? Tuesday night matches used to generate such an atmosphere, but that seems to have gone for some reason.
Even though the teams round us are doing well, we still look pretty secure for the play-offs at least. You know, looking back on the Brighton game, I couldn't really see us losing as we are playing with so much team spirit and bags of confidence. I don't think we had one of our better performances on Saturday, but we achieved the win and three points is three points. Anyway, I don't want to count any chickens, but thirteen consecutive home League wins, six consecutive League wins home and away ... you've got to say that this is Championship form. The home record is unbelievable.
I'm quite sure that two of the current top three teams will fill the top two positions come the end of the season, as there is quite a gap opening up. We are in a terrific position to be one of them."
